Product Description
Detailed Specifications & Features

Automatic Barrel Zinc Plating Line

The Automatic Barrel Zinc Plating Line is designed for high-volume zinc plating of small metal parts such as fasteners, hardware components and other conductive workpieces. Parts are loaded into rotating plating barrels, allowing the workpieces to tumble during the plating process and achieve uniform electrical contact and coating coverage.

The automatic line integrates pretreatment, zinc plating, rinsing and post-treatment processes into a controlled production sequence. The equipment configuration can be customized according to workpiece size, production capacity, barrel loading requirements and required zinc plating process.

Key Features

  1. Six-Transporter Configuration
Six gantry transporters are installed to accommodate different plating sequences and production volumes. The transporters perform lifting, lowering, and horizontal transfer automatically under PLC control, allowing flexible coordination between multiple process stations.

  2. Automated Process Handling
Except for loading and unloading, the entire barrel transfer process is handled automatically. Once the required plating program is selected, the system controls the transporter movements and processing sequence without continuous manual intervention.

  3. Smooth Three-Speed Travel
The lifting and traveling mechanisms use a low-high-low speed profile. This controlled acceleration and deceleration reduces impact and barrel swing during starting and stopping, helping maintain consistent transfer speed and positioning accuracy. An alarm light indicates transporter movement during operation.

  4. Flexible Process Selection
Different plating programs can be stored in the PLC system. Operators can select the required program according to the workpiece and process requirements, while the transporter automatically follows the corresponding sequence.

  5. Positioning Accuracy & Operational Safety
An absolute positioning system is used for accurate transporter positioning. Each process tank has a unique identification code to reduce the risk of incorrect positioning. Guard rails and rail protection devices provide additional protection against collisions and derailment, while emergency brake safety ropes are installed along both sides of the line.

Operating Sequence

The workpieces are manually loaded into the barrel and the barrel lid is secured before the operator selects the required plating program. The transporter then picks up the barrel from the loading station and carries it through the programmed pretreatment, plating, rinsing, and other process stages.

When plating is completed, the barrel is transferred to the unloading station. The operator removes the processed workpieces and places them into the passivation basket. A dedicated manipulator automatically handles the basket during passivation. After the passivation cycle, the unloading mechanism tilts the basket and transfers the finished workpieces into the collection basket.

Equipment Benefits

The system combines multi-transporter coordination, programmable process control, smooth material handling, accurate positioning, and comprehensive safety protection. Its compact structure and reliable operation make it suitable for continuous automated barrel plating of different metal components.

Typical Barrel Zinc Plating Process

A typical barrel zinc plating process may include:

Loading → Alkaline Degreasing → Water Rinsing → Pickling or Activation → Water Rinsing → Zinc Plating → Water Rinsing → Passivation → Water Rinsing → Drying → Unloading

During zinc plating, small metal parts are placed inside a rotating barrel. The continuous tumbling movement helps expose different surfaces of the parts to the plating solution and maintains electrical contact with the cathode system.

The actual process sequence, tank configuration, plating chemistry and treatment parameters are customized according to the workpiece material, geometry and required coating performance.

Quality Control

Each barrel zinc plating line is inspected and tested before shipment. The inspection covers mechanical movement, barrel rotation, transfer positioning, electrical wiring, PLC control functions and safety devices.

The automatic operating sequence is tested to verify communication between the control system, transfer equipment and process stations. Key equipment functions are checked against the agreed technical specifications before delivery.

For customized projects, equipment commissioning and process verification can be carried out according to the customer's workpiece and production requirements.
