Reel-to-Reel Electroplating Equipment
Our reel-to-reel electroplating equipment is designed for continuous plating of strip materials and other reel-fed metal components. The system integrates material unwinding, pretreatment, electroplating, rinsing, drying and rewinding into a continuous production process.
The line can be engineered according to the customer's strip material, product dimensions, plating process, production capacity and required coating specifications. Typical applications include continuous plating of metal strips, terminals, connector components and other precision metal products.
The equipment combines automatic material handling with PLC-based process control to maintain stable production and repeatable plating conditions. Rectifiers, filtration, cooling, air agitation and exhaust treatment systems can be integrated according to the selected plating process.
Greatwell provides equipment design, fabrication, control integration, installation support and after-sales technical service for customized reel-to-reel plating projects.
Electronic Connector Plating Process
With the continued development of the electronics industry, electronic connectors are evolving toward higher density, lighter weight, thinner profiles, miniaturization, multifunctionality, and improved reliability. As connectors are increasingly used in sleeves, interfaces, internal assemblies, and other electronic applications, stable electrical contact has become one of the most important performance requirements.
Copper and copper alloys are widely used as the base materials for electronic connectors because of their excellent electrical conductivity and processability. However, additional surface treatment is often required to improve corrosion resistance, wear resistance, electrical contact performance, and solderability.
Common surface treatment solutions for electronic connectors include gold plating over a nickel underlayer and solderable plating processes with a copper underlayer. Silver plating is used less frequently because of its relatively limited corrosion resistance. In recent years, palladium and palladium alloy coatings have also been developed as alternatives to gold coatings, particularly for applications requiring high wear resistance and a high number of insertion and extraction cycles.
Plating Process Flow
The complete plating process can be configured according to the connector material, coating requirements, production capacity, and quality specifications:
Loading → Degreasing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Acid Cleaning → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Aminosulfonate Nickel Plating → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Selective Pulse Gold Plating → Recovery Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Selective Sn-Pb Alloy Plating → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Water Rinsing → Deionized Water Rinsing → Deionized Hot Water Rinsing → Drying → Unloading → Inspection
Each process tank is provided with a PVC process identification label for clear process management and easy operation.
Plating Tank Design & Manufacturing
1. Tank Materials and Construction
1.1 Plating and Spare Tanks
The plating tanks and spare tanks are manufactured from 12 mm German Röchling PP material. Reinforcement is also made from Röchling PP, while the tank covers use 8 mm transparent tempered glass to provide visibility and operational safety.
1.2 Main Process Tanks
The main tanks are constructed from 12 mm German Röchling PP with 20 mm Röchling PP reinforcement. For main heating tanks, additional reinforcement is provided using 40 * 40 * 3.0 mm square steel tubing, covered with 4 mm PP material for enhanced structural stability and chemical resistance.
The tank covers are made from 12 mm German Röchling PP. Pump openings are precision-machined to ensure accurate dimensions, a smooth surface, and a clean overall appearance.
1.3 Welding Quality
All PP welding joints are designed to be firm, reliable, smooth, flat, and clean, with strict attention to welding quality and overall tank appearance.
1.4 Drainage and Chemical Discharge
Chemical outlets and drainage ports are positioned at the bottom of the tanks, allowing convenient tank cleaning, solution drainage, and waste discharge.
For double-cell and triple-cell rinse tanks, each individual rinse compartment is equipped with an independent bottom discharge outlet, enabling separate drainage and easier maintenance.
1.5 Multi-Stage Rinse Tank Design
Multi-stage rinse tanks are designed with a counter-flow rinsing system. Rinse water flows from the upper-stage compartment to the next stage, while the bottom discharge and water-flow arrangement are designed to improve rinsing efficiency and reduce water consumption.
